Well, it’s been almost 2 months since I last blogged, and although I’ve thought about writing a few times, what finally spurred action, is that i’m worried that my plane is going to be TOO HEAVY…
I’ve just checked in at Cape Town international airport and the entire SA Rugby champs who did South Africa proud in the 2007 World Cup Rugby are on the same flight as me.
All the check in staff are wearing South African rugby jersey’s - British Airways is the official carrier of the Bokke…
Hang on. British Airways? Well, that’s what the check in person told me, but perhaps she meant that British Airways are the official carrier of the World Cup Rugby Teams and not specifically the South African Rugby Team, as surely that would be South African Airways?
Isn’t it ironic for South Africa to beat England in the World Cup Rugby final and South Africa see’s levels of patriotism not seen since the last World Cup Rugby Victory in 1995, and our boys get flown around by the guys we beat!
Anyway, my one observation is that the guys are HUGE! Schalk was standing a meter away from me, and all of the non rugby players standing around me waiting to check in must have felt the same way I did - the guys are MASSIVE.
I guess I need to mention that the alarm sounded as I went through security, the lady flagged me to one side, and there was no-one there - and the lady that flagged me didn’t even bother to look back.
Anyway, just met Bismarck - what a nice guy! I asked for a picture of the 2 of us, and took it in “black and white” by mistake. No issue. He smiled again for the colour pic.
Maybe the South African rugby boys should take over the security at the airport!!!!

Hi there,
As far as I know, British Airways IS the official carrier of our Rugby team
“British Airways and the Boks British Airways has been the Official Airline Carrier of the Springbok Rugby Team since 2000. Being an airline with the most legroom has always ensured that the team were comfortable and arrived fresh and ready for their matches and we’re proud to be associated with the team.”
