I woke up this morning and with a strong cup of coffee, turned onto BBC while checking my mail and catching up on the news on the web
First up with BBC talking about myspace and using a term called “hyper targetting”. I’ve been discussing hyper targetting with many people over the last few weeks, but hadn’t used that particular phrase yet.
Basically, micro targetting - myspace (and the other social networks such as orkut and facebook), know far more than just where their users come from via IP address. The users are telling these social network sites large amounts of information such as city they live in, date of birth, male or female, favourite movies and books and tons of other relevant info.
And then the networks can target highly specific adverts to these users. MySpace has signed up some heavy hitter blue chips to hyper target ads to their user base.
And then I glanced at IOL, and read the following article…
5 hours ago, in the early hours of the morning, (while I was sleeping soundly), 7 armed men arrived at a house or business in Woodstock (which is probably around 5 kilometers away from me), and killed the 5 employees of the taxi company there.
The entire article is about 6 sentences.
And the article describes the killing as follows:
” “They were all shot with a single bullet wound to the head,” he said.”
Wait a second!!! This isn’t a robbery. This is an execution and it got a few sentences!!!!!
I thought about it over and over - 7 armed men EXECUTED 5 employees a few kilometers away from my home!
And my monday morning thought is that we’re living in a FOOLS PARADISE. I’m busy watching international TV programs on advanced Internet strategies and staring at a misty ocean, WHILE a few paces away from where I live, people are being EXECUTED.
I didn’t need a 2nd cup of coffee this morning to wake up! I’ve already had my wake up call.
