Dandruff Cure

How did I make over $200 on Sunday from a VERY NICHE site?

A few years ago I had fun setting up websites across a whole range of industry’s.

One focussed on Dandruff - specifically a Dandruff Cure information site. I named it DandruffDirectory.com and it was simply a resource directory for Dandruff, Psoriasis, Eczema, Hairloss, Acne and other skin disorders.

I threw some adsense code on the site to monetize.

And then last Friday, I checked the adsense account as I do every few weeks and saw that I had made over $150 on the day! I did a bit of quick research and couldn’t figure out where the traffic was coming from. It had been such a long time since I had looked at Dandruff Directory, that I had no idea where the log in for the stats were!!!!!

On Monday I checked again - The site made over $200 on Sunday!!! However it only made a few dollars on Saturday!

Now I was intrigued!!! I spent some time investigating, finding the various log in’s for the different tracking programs, and finally figured out what was happening.

AOL wrote an article on Dandruff Genes a few days ago, and it was posted on the home page of the AOL Body section. It might even have been posted on the main page of AOL - I’m not sure…

…but that was enough to drive HUGE traffic to my dandruff site WHILE the AOL page was getting big traffic. By yesterday the traffic to the AOL page had stopped as their page had fallen down the AOL list of top story’s and my site was nearly back to its daily dollar!

I still can’t figure out why there was a SPIKE on Friday and Sunday but not Saturday, but the fascinating thing about Internet Marketing is that there is ALWAYS something you won’t figure out.

And I’ve realised the power of AOL traffic - now I just have to figure out how to get more!!!!

Think this article should be read by others?

I have unfortunately not had this type of good fortune but good fortune in another way. One of my steady traffic and earning sites averaging between 10 and 12c/click on one day recorded an 82c/click average with no content change and similar traffic.

If anyone has any insight into this I would love to hear it.

Interesting that I didn’t get your dandruffdirectory google ad in your Google Ads. For some reason, your comment about this post on my blog got ‘caught’ by Akismet - perhaps because of the URL - I don’t know.
My latest post is titled “Could News sites out-Google Google Ads?” I’d be interested in what you thought of the idea.
