Ebbsfleet United & MyFC

November 15th, 2007 · 1 Comment

How is this for an amazing Internet Story that got buried deep in sports section of free daily newspaper “The Times”.

MyFC is an Internet company that charges it’s members R500 per year with the objective of buying a football club and the members have the say in how the club is run.

What’s so amazing about that?

1. MyFC just bought 51% of Ebbsfleet United, an English football club which is in the Football Conference league which is one level below the professional soccer leagues.

2. How could they afford Ebbsfleet United? MyFC has R10 Million in the bank from it’s 20 thousand members paying a R500 annual fee.

3. MyFC started in APRIL this year!

My FC is an Internet membership site which launched 6 months ago, and has TWENTY thousand members paying R500 a year.

Has founder Will Brooks started a trend? Consolidating supporters fees using the Internet and using the money raised to BUY business’s which the fans have the say on - each week the fans vote on who should play.

A real world application of Wikipedia - Jimmy Wales should be proud!
