The calender is getting really full these days. Eran flew out of Cape Town at midday today and isn’t getting a chance to relax, as tonight is 27 in Durban and JHB, and Eran has asked to be the keynote speaker @ 27 Durban to discuss our cell phone portal Mobile-QandA.com
We spent some time @ the GSM Africa conference last week chatting with all the cell phone guys. What a great bunch of people.
Unfortunately, we were all ready to show off our brand new site design, but things haven’t gone as planned. First there was an issue with the database, which just couldn’t get resolved - the site was down for DAYS!!! And although MobileQandA is up and running again, it is FAR FROM PERFECT. We’ve got a LONG list of changes we’re working on till we’re happy with it. BREATHE IN SLOWLY!!!!! *GRIN*
Tomorrow night in Cape Town is the GeekDinner @ the Waterfront.
I’ve just read a twitter message from Tyler Reed mentioning that the power is off @ Melrose Arch at the moment where 27 JHB is being held, and it’s just started. I hope they get things sorted…
So how many FREE events are there for Internet Marketers in Cape Town at the moment?Â
27 - every second month - entrepreneurs, bloggers, internet marketers, internet “players”
GeekDinner - every second month - internet technical focus
Open Coffee Club -Â should be every month, but i haven’t got my act together the last few months - busy chatting with some smart guys about the best way to take it forward, and it will start again in 2008 (Wow - 2008! can you believe it!) - focus on technology entrepreneurs meeting investors (both angel and venture capitalists)
Facebook Garage - not quite sure? Joey - how often is Facebook Garage planned for? - focusing on Facebook applications
Are there any other FREE events in Cape Town for people interested in the Internet space to network?

There’s also StarCamp ( http://www.starcamp.org.za/ ), which is for anyone interested in technology, new media, and social networking (both the online kind and the kind you will do at the event). The list of attendees is currently a bit slanted towards the technical, but we’re hoping that those more interested in the marketing and business side of things will come out of the woodwork.
I’d think it’d be obvious that the best way to market your skills and services is to tell people about it, so I’m hopeful…

Thanks Neil,
Just took a look at the Starcamp.org.za site and for anyone looking to network and learn as much as possible in Cape Town, there are a large number of people already attending on the 8th and 9th of December (see list below) - although the topics are pretty technical…
Just remembered there’s also Pod Camp which Glen did a great job on last month, but starcamp and podcamp don’t seen too be monthly or bi-monthly events though…

ps: although the topics for Star Camp are more technical focussed than the other events, many of the guys on the list are the same ones going to 27 etc…

For some reason, people seem to be scared of the fact there are already a bunch of technical topics and people, but they can make the event for them if they add:
1. themselves,
2. their own topics,
3. their friends
I guess the idea of an unconference isn’t yet very pervasive, but we will all need to help out to educate people to the idea that their passions are important, and that they have the ability to teach and inspire others about those passions.
There are already talks about having StarCamp in July next year, so we hope to be part of the “regular” calendar in Cape Town.

I am going to be organising another event in the new year (with the idea of hopefully holding them at least quarterly if we can find sponsors) - this time, taking ongoing developments in the space into consideration, we will be opening up to the entire social media spectrum and I’d like to look at other social networks; Bebo.com for example (for those of us focusing and porting apps for the UK market) and of course Open Social.
If your interested to be involved, please lemme know!
