Internet Marketing Conferences

December 3rd, 2007 · No Comments

There have been a lot of Internet Marketing conferences lately. One of the interesting ones I managed to catch recently was the PublishOnline 2007 conference in association with the Online Publishers Association.

One of the reasons I enjoy going to the Internet Marketing conferences is to catch up with the other guys in the industry. I caught up briefly with Matthew Buckland from the Mail & Guardian, sat next to Rob Stokes and Janine Carpenter from Quirk, saw my mate and business partner Vinny “Will Synthasite be worth more than Facebook” Lingham, said a quick hello to the Acceleration Media team - Diane Charton and Jackie Boyd, and met Graunt Kruger from the new Vodacom Cell Phone Advertising division who I had heard talking at the Reshaping Media conference a week before.

I also briefly met Alan Hammond, the publishing editor of the Skills Portal who was responsible for the day.

A few interesting snippets from some of the talks I caught and from chatting to the other attendees:

1. A few well known South African sites are engaging in Black Hat SEO. Tsk Tsk!!!

2.  Google.co.za has landed in SA. Welcome Guys…

3. Matthew Buckland on Web 14.0

4. Jonathan Muir from 24.com Ad Engine - Ad Engine is going contextual in Q1 08. Google vs 24…round 1…

5. David Murray from Cape Venture Partners on their new fund - the ignite fund - CVP is going to invest in early stage and start up’s - R200 to 300 million. 20 to 25 start up’s.

There’s a lot of exciting things happening in the Internet Space in SA @ the moment…
