86 tackling Lions Head Mountain

Eric on Lions Head Mountain in Cape Town

I didn’t do resolutions for 09. Instead I said that 09 would be the year of balance. I’m known for being extremist in the sense that whatever I’m focussed on takes all my focus.

So the last year with the launch of our new tshirt business springleap, has seen me do nothing but work, work, work!

What happened to my motto in life: “Work Hard, Play Hard!”?

One of the areas i’m going to focus is to get my body back in shape. At 17 I was at the gym every day, surfing, squash, martial arts and the list continues. At 33 I do NOTHING!

If I don’t actively think of excercise and eating right, it doesn’t happen! And one of the best ways is to write a weekly update of whether I’m on the right path. So join me for a journey of getting my body back in shape.

What did I do this week?

Gym THREE times, and today I climbed Lions Head Mountain. I twittered that I was considering going up Lions Head Mountain this morning, and got a reply that they did the hike 2 days ago, and it “wasn’t strenuous”.

Let me tell you that for a 86kg out of shape person, Lions Head is EXTREMELY strenuous. About 30 seconds after reaching home, I was out for the count. But I did make it to the top. So I’d give the score as Lions Head 1, Eric 1.

I’m also hitting the Sauna after gym sessions. It’s a great relaxant!

So the battle has begun - at 86 kg’s, I think that I can lose a good 10 kilograms! My eating habits haven’t been too bad, but I have to try not to have triple helpings of dessert!

PS: i twitter far more often that I blog so if you’re on twitter, catch me on www.twitter.com/EricEdelstein

PPS: it’s not only the body that has to change, it’s the mind. I’ve had Stephen Covey’s “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” sitting on my bookshelf for years, and I’m charging through it. I started yesterday and am on page 35 and am thinking so far that it’s a MUST READ for everyone!
