Question: Where do you enjoy working from the most?

I received an email from Andrew asking where I prefer working from – the office or coffee shops.

ANSWER (and to make it interesting, I’ll throw in a 3rd option)

In third place…

The office – perhaps it’s the fact that over the last few years, I’ve always been working in an open plan office, and not a closed office, but I feel it’s great for interacting with the rest of the team, but I can’t really get into the depth of my work as I keep getting interrupted. So I use the office for meetings or replying to emails, or admin. But not much real work seems to get done their, such as complicated excel spreadsheets…

In second place…

My home office – I like working from home, but it’s sometimes a little too easy to get distracted into watching TV, playing with my kid, or having a nap. You need to be extremely disciplined to work from home. Sometimes for weeks on end, I’m disciplined, but then I lose it for a few days…

So the winner is…

The coffee shop – and I’m not talking about a coffee shop which is empty and has large comfortable couches. I’m talking about a “laptop warriors coffee shop”, the one where there is a long table in the middle, with a dozen other people typing frantically at their laptops. There’s a vibe, there’s coffee on tap, and there’s the mentality that everyone is working flat out. I find I’m often at my most productive in an environment like this.
